Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about the ASVAB, AFCT, and this platform.
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery is a multi-aptitude test given to anyone wanting to enlist in the U.S. military. It has 9 subtests covering areas from word knowledge to mechanical comprehension. Your scores determine which military jobs (MOS/AFSC/Rating) you qualify for.
Your AFQT (Armed Forces Qualification Test) score comes from 4 subtests: Word Knowledge (WK), Paragraph Comprehension (PC), Arithmetic Reasoning (AR), and Math Knowledge (MK). The formula is AR + MK + (2 × VE) where VE = WK + PC combined. You need a minimum of 31 to qualify for enlistment, though most branches prefer higher.
The ASVAB is for people who haven't enlisted yet. The AFCT (Armed Forces Classification Test) is the same test content but taken by active-duty service members who want to raise their line scores for reclassification, OCS, or special operations qualification. Your AFCT score permanently replaces your old score, even if it's lower.
